Penang
November 2nd
The journey from Krabi to Penang went without any problems and we arrived in Penang at about 4:00 p.m. I found a suitable place to stay (Golden Plaza Hotel, 20 RM for a single room) and settled in. I went for a little walk around nearby Little India and had some dinner in a Indian restaurant.

With only one day allocated to see Penang, I started early with a quick trip to the area around Fort Cornwallis

and continued the tour with visits to Chinese and Indian temples and Meeting Houses

In the afternoon I caught the bus to Air Itam to visit the Kek Lok Si Temple, one of the better temples that I visited on my trip

Kek Lok Si Temple. As you can see the Pagoda is Burmese at the bottom, Thai in the middle and Chinese at the top |

I then walked to the bottom station of the funicular railway up Penang Hill (which is further my guide book implied). This railway is one of the slowest that I have ever seen, but the view and at the top is good. I stayed at the top until the sun had set and Penang was lit up below, the headed back into town. Had a very nice meal from the street vendor

Next day it was southward and upward to the Cameron Highlands
